S, who suffered from severe learning difficulties, was charged with another person of conspiring to import heroin. David Phillips and Partners criminal defence solicitors successfully represented him and, as a result of their work, S was acquitted of all charges.

Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (“HMRC”) were investigating heroin imports into the United Kingdom when they came across S and another. They impounded an import of furniture. Upon inspection, the investigators found heroin concealed in it.

HMRC allowed the furniture to continue to its destination, where it eventually arrived at a flat in London. S and his co-defendant were arrested at the flat and charged with drug importation.

S instructed David Phillips and Partners criminal defence solicitors. We immediately established that S suffered from severe learning difficulties, that he had no knowledge of the drugs, and was just doing what had been asked of him. We arranged for evidence to be produced at his trial in support.
